Yucca Information and Usage

Yucca, or soap root as it's known, can be found in Mexico and the southwestern United States. The reason this herb is commonly called soap root is because the roots can be used as a cleanser that creates suds and foam. The reason for the foam is saponin, a steroid which creates lather. Saponins also have medicinal benefits and support many parts of the body including the joints. Herbalists may use yucca for problems like arthritis and inflammation.

Yucca may also sometimes be recommended for kidney problems, colon problems and liver problems. This plant is actually part of the lily family and was even used by the Native Americans for making all kinds of things including shoes, baskets, ropes, mats and of course, soap. Each Nature's Sunshine capsule contains 450 mg of the finest quality yucca. The recommended serving is one capsule with meals, twice per day.
