HY-A by Nature's Sunshine Products is created to support proper digestion. Each of the ingredients in this formula help provide the nutrition necessary for a healthy digestive system. Licorice root is included in this formula because of its supportive effects on the gastrointestinal system. For ages licorice root has been used in herbal medicine as a general tonic and detoxifying agent. In addition it is a popular flavoring for candy, food, beverages and medication.

Another common and beneficial ingredient in this formula is dandelion root. Native Americans have used dandelion root for centuries for issues related to the digestive system. While the entire plant from root to flower is able to be used for medicinal and/or culinary purposes, it is the root that is included in this formula for its positive effect on the digestive system. One reason for the positive effect of dandelion root are the sesquiterpene lactones contained within.

Horseradish root is also an ingredient in HY-A. This is another ingredient that has culinary use in addition to medicinal use. It has antibacterial and antiparasitic properties and works as a diuretic. The final active ingredient in this product is safflower flowers, which also have a mild diuretic effect and work to support healthy digestion, in addition to providing nutritional value.
